AdSense is one of my most consistent and stable revenue streams for many of the sites I run.  It’s easy to implement, targeted to your content, and you can start making money immediately.  For many of us, AdSense is one of the first methods that we use to monetize our sites or blogs. However, I have found that even simple tweaking with other forms of monetization (affiliate products or other contextual ads in particular) can have an immediate and profound effect on the results we see and the money we make.

How to test AdSense alternatives

You can easily test to see if you can make more money with some of the alternatives to AdSense just by taking a few simple steps.  Using this method, I have actually transformed pages that were only making a few dollars per month, into pages or posts that generate several hundred dollars per month… a huge difference in income!

How you can start testing some AdSense alternatives:

• Identify the top 10-30 top-performing posts or pages in terms of traffic on your site
• You will now want to go through each page one-by-one and replace AdSense with an affiliate product that complements the content on each page.  You can also test other ad networks like Kontera, Chitika, and Amazon.
• Once you have replaced AdSense with one of these alternatives, you want to track and analyze the numbers. I suggest waiting until a page has generated a few hundred impressions at the minimum to see what kind of results are receiving.  Fewer impressions than that and you simply don’t have enough data to make an informed decision.
• Analyze and choose the best-performing monetization method.  If AdSense performed better, go back and put it up on the pages.

There are many times that I have found that while AdSense only made a few cents or dollars per day, while choosing another monetization method resulted in a much higher revenue per page.  If you have success with these pages you have identified and tested, you will probably want to go do it for as many pages as you can to achieve the most money possible and maximize your earnings.

I have seen that taking just these few steps have dramatically increased income and actually meant the difference between a few – and a few hundred dollars per month.
