Whether you’re blogging or promoting a site, many of us tend to stick with the same methods to distribute our content. Distribution and reaching people is vital to the success of any site – and the route most choose is to produce more content, write new articles, or create more pages. But when you stick with one method of promoting your site you are missing huge numbers of people, because we all engage with information in different ways. Some people take in information by reading, others do so visually, and yet others prefer audio. By appealing to the different mediums (i.e. audio, video, text, etc.) you can reach a much larger audience.
We are fortunate with the internet because it gives us the ability to reach huge numbers and deliver our content in a manner that best suits the different types of people and how they consume information.
Expand your horizons and explore new avenues
Something that holds many of us back from creating various types of content is our unfamiliarity with a particular method. If you are accustomed to writing, then creating a video may seem totally foreign to you – while people who create videos may not be as comfortable writing. By expanding outside of your comfort zone, you can try various ways to market your site and reach people you would not have otherwise been able to connect with.
Ways you can deliver your content
There are dozens of ways that you can share your content, but a few of the most popular are:
- Audio - Podcasts are an excellent example
- Video
- Writing -Articles, posts, and pages
- Files - PDFs, presentations, tools, and programs
Why you should use different channels
There are sites that are focused around each of the four distribution methods that I just mentioned where people congregate to take in information that appeals most to them. Video enthusiasts will gather at sites like YouTube, while writers and readers tend to hang out in forums, read articles, and blog posts that are comprised mostly of text. When you take advantage of the different mediums you can reach people that would not have otherwise seen your content.
Integrating the various methods
You don’t have to simply choose one method when it comes to distributing the content for your site or blog. You can integrate a couple (or all) in order for your content to find the largest audience possible and reach the most people.
An excellent example of how you can merge these various distribution channels is by looking at some sites or blogs that have conducted interviews with people. Often, you will notice that they have the interview in several different formats. Many sites will post a video of their interview, allow you to listen via a podcast or download, type up a transcript, and maybe offer a file they can download. By using video, audio, and the other methods you simply have to create the content once and then publish it to each source.
When using video, audio, text, and the other formats together – you are helping promote your content further simply by making a variation in each medium and working smarter by just leveraging your already-created content.
